The Bronze Medal heeft vertraging opgelopen tijdens hun reis vanuit Bristol naar V11, Rotterdam. Ze zullen daarom ongeveer een uurtje later beginnen dan gepland. Excuses namens de band!

Het Engelse The Bronze Medal is meester in fijnzinnig gearrangeerde, spaarzame popliedjes. De wortels van deze jonge band zijn te traceren naar Scandinavië, waar songwritersduo Simon Hillier en Robin Southwell zes weken lang als straatmuzikant ronddoolde. De chemie tussen de twee beviel zodanig goed dat ze in Engeland meer muzikanten besloten te verzamelen: Mike Barnet op bas, Daniel Rogers op toetsen en Rory O’ Gorman plaatsnemend achter drums.

Net als The Antlers, Beirut en het rustige werk van The National blinkt The Bronze Medal uit in fraaie minutieuze details. Strijkers, piano en blazers zijn in de handen van deze Engelsen geen instrument om bombast scheppen, maar expressieve stemmen die hun eigen plan trekken binnen de songs. Hoewel The Bronze Medal opvallend weinig op tournee gaat, hebben ze al met oude Rotown-bekenden Dry The River en Husky op het podium mogen staan. Weet je gelijk ook meteen waarom deze show in de V11 eentje wordt om te koesteren.

The Bronze Medal’s subtlety arranged, sparse pop songs are both haunting and extremely beautiful. The roots of this English young band can be traced to Scandinavia, where songwriter-duo Simon Hillier and Robin Southwell spent six weeks busking. The chemistry between the two turned out to be so flawless, they opted to recruit more musicians back home: Mike Barnet on bass, Daniel Rogers on keyboards and Rory O’ Gorman behind the drums.

Just like The Antlers, Beirut and the more subdued work of The National, The Bronze Medal’s lush sound simmers within its most meticulous details. Strings, piano and wind brass aren’t utilized for bombast, but as expressive voices that draw out their own trajectory within the songs’ compostion. Even though The Bronze Medal doesn’t tour all that often, they did share the stage with former Rotown-residents Dry The River and Husky. All the more reason to cherish The Bronze Medal’s performance tonight at Light Vessel 11.
