Het concert in V11 is uitverkocht, maar voor de shows in Zwolle (Hedon) en Utrecht (TivoliVredenburg) zijn nu nog wel tickets verkrijgbaar.

Husky Gawenda en zijn band hebben Rotown wel vaker betoverd met hun fraaie indiepoppareltjes. Nu zoeken de Australiërs een intiemere setting op: de V11. Nieuwe plaat Ruckers Hill ontleent zich namelijk goed voor een knussere plek. Ruckers Hill is een verfijnde plaat waarin Husky zich breekbaarder en nonchalanter openbaart. De liedjes zijn minder fijnzinnig volgestopt met details, eenvoud en spelplezier voeren de boventoon. Er is meer ruimte voor spontaniteit, en daarmee werd de drempel voor Gawenda ook lager om liedjes meer vanuit het onderbewuste te verkennen.

Merkwaardig genoeg gaat die spontaniteit en directheid gepaard met lichtvoetige thema’s, liedjes die een ode brengen aan de kleine incidentele schoonheden die het leven draagbaar maken. Husky grijpt terug naar invloeden van Nick Drake, Simon & Garfunkel en Leonard Cohen, en vangt hiermee een pastorale romantiek die je vooral van dichtbij moet meemaken. Verwar een stapje terug daarom niet met een gebrek aan progressie: Husky is, in de meest bescheiden manier denkbaar, op zijn artistieke hoogtepunt beland.

Husky Gawenda and his band have enchanted Rotown more than once with their sophisticated indie pop. Now the Australians are looking for a more intimate setting: the V11. Indeed, Husky’s new record Ruckers Hill works better in a more tranquil space, as the songs reveal a more spontaneous, loosey goosey side to the band. Ruckers Hill less adorned with details, allowing simplicity and sense of fun dictate the musical direction a bit more. There is more room for spontaneity, and thus the threshold for Gawenda is now lower to explore the songs more from a subconscious angle.

Strangely enough, that inherent spontaneity and directness is accompanied by more light-hearted themes, tributes to the small incidental beauties that make life worthwhile. Husky harkens back to influences of Nick Drake, Simon & Garfunkel and Leonard Cohen, capturing a simplistic and pastoral romance that you have to experience in close proximity. Do not confuse this more modest approach with lack of progression, however: Husky, in the most matter of fact way imaginable, have arrived at their artistic peak
