Vessels heeft met nieuw album Dilate een merkwaardige transformatie gemaakt. De instrumentale band uit Leeds stond vier jaar terug vooral bekend om hun verwoede post- en mathrock. Op Dilate demonstreert Vessels organisch-klinkende dance en elektronica, met nadruk op bedwelmend rondfladderende synthlagen en warme pulserende ritmes, waar de band duidelijk afkijkt bij The Orb, Caribou, M83 en John Hopkins.

Vanavond zullen de gitaren eens niet de basis verzorgen, maar dienen als een van de wonderbaarlijke texturen die Vessels integreert. Vessels anno 2015 vertolkt muziek dat zich niet slechts tussen de oren nestelt, maar de luisteraar net zo eenvoudig fysiek overrompelt, met nummers die je letterlijk door de aderen voelt trillen. Als er één band de dromende meedeiners en de feestbeesten kan verenigen, is het Vessels wel.

The transformation Vessels made with their latest LP Dilate has been quite astounding. Just four years back the Leeds-based instrumental quintet was known for their monumental brand of post- and math rock. Dilate demonstrates an entirely different side to Vessels, employing fluid-like electronic soundscapes, ethereal synth layers and a warm, pulsating four-to-the-floor cadence, drawing influences from the likes of The Orb, Caribou, M83 and John Hopkis.

During tonight’s performance, guitars will not be the prevalent element, but just one of many wondrous textures applied to the music. As of today, Vessels not only appeals to the space between the ears, but the physical anatomy itself, with tunes that quiver through the veins like an electric current. If there’s one band able to reconcile the nodding aficionado’s and the fervid partygoers, it’s Vessels.
