Folk/country anti-hero Tyler Childers writes songs from a slightly absurdist perspective, reminiscent of the American Southern Gothic flow. With his own background in Lawrence, Kentucky as launchpad, Childers tells tall tales of angels and demons, civilization and wild nature, resplendent churches and seedy windowless pubs. Childers heroically reaches for the holy heavens as the devil’s sin is constantly prowling within spitting distance.

Childers’ forthcoming debut Purgatory is produced by none other than Grammy winners Sturgill Simpson and David Ferguson. The first song, the meditative, existential lament Universal Sound, is a great preview of the eventual main event. Tonight, Childers will convert Rotown to a sacred place and extinguish the purgatory flames together with us.
