Summer Cannibals

The Thermals, Sleater-Kinney, Mikal Cronin, Ex Hex

De eerste twee albums, No Makeup en Show Us Your Mind, werden nog in eigen beheer uitgebracht.

Summer Cannibals make deliciously brutal, lawless power punk indebted to the likes of Sleater-Kinney, Ty Segall, The Wipers and The Thermals. The latter, moreover, were so charmed by Summer Cannibals they hauled them along for an extensive tour. Singer / guitarist Jessica Boudreaux even played for a bit with Hutch and his gang.

Until recently, Summer Cannibals were hailed as the best kept secret in Portland’s indie rock hotbed. The first two albums, No Makeup and Show Us Your Mind were still self-released efforts. This year however, the group released Full Of It on their brand new new stable Kill Rock Stars, a legendary indie label with roots in the riot grrrl movement. Perfect fit, don’t you say?

Although Summer Cannibals is named after a Patti Smith song, don’t expect Boudreaux and company to indulge in grave statements. With a brash je ne sais quoi, these cats mow you down using an arsenal of bright and breezy cooler-than-thou punk rock anthems. Summer may be over when the Summer Cannibals come to V11, you can wear them sunglasses safely inside tonight.
