Je wordt er wel een beetje duizelig van, de overvloed aan stijlen die het Belgische STUFF. in hun muziek samensmelt. Die simpele benaming is dan misschien gepast: niet teveel erover nadenken, maar gewoon alles over je heen laten spoelen. Vernuftig goochelen met samples a la The Avalanches en onbevangen het experiment induiken als Tortoise en Stereolab, STUFF. is eigenlijk van alle markten thuis. Hoe ze al die buitengewoon originele kruisbestuivingen naar het podium vertalen, dat is wederom een duizelingwekkende gedachte. Maar als Tom Barman van dEUS je de beste live act van 2014 noemt, kun je de conclusie alvast trekken: this is some really good stuff.

Ook dwars van conventies is IX, volgens velen het best bewaarde geheim van Nederland. Het brein achter het project is Amsterdams wonderkind Marnix Dorrestein. Dorrestein’s liedjes vangen een bijzondere dynamiek: ze ademen de melancholie van jaren zestig pop, maar dan verpakt in frisse, hedendaagse popproducties die putten uit Afrikaanse muziek, R&B, synthpop en elektronica.

Dit concert wordt georganiseerd in samenwerking met Rotown en Motel Mozaique.

Once you feast on Belgian collective STUFF.’s smorgasbord of musical genres, ‘good stuff’ would be an apt, albeit blunt, assertion. Still, it’s our job to at least attempt describing STUFF.’s swashbuckling modus operandi. The group’s self-titled debut applies The Avalanches’ technicolor, sample-based wizardry to live music, throwing in the art rock virtues of Stereolab and Tortoise for good measure. Attempting to wrap your head around translating this music to the stage is a different ballgame. Though you probably shouldn’t worry too much when dEUS-frontman Tom Barman names you the best live act he’s witnessed in 2014.

Another artist who breaches convention is IX, who’s considered one of Holland’s best kept secrets. IX is the brain child of Amsterdam-based wunderkind Marnix Dorrestein. Dorrestein’s songs occupy an unusual space, embracing the nostalgic melancholy of sixties pop, yet embellishing it with fresh futuristic pop productions imbued with African music, R&B, synth pop and electronics.
