Amsterdamse rapper pakt uit met dikke liveshow

Yousef Gnaoui, voor het grote publiek beter bekend als Sef, bestormde het Nederlandse hiphopcircuit in 2004 als kernlid van Flinke Namen. De Amsterdamse rapper heeft een grote vinger in de pap bij anthems van o.a. The Partysquad, Gers Pardoel, Dio en The Opposites; Broodje Bakpao, Bagagedrager en Me Nikes zijn inmiddels begrippen in de Nederlandse popcultuur.

Sef heeft altijd een killer hook in zijn vocabulaire; zijn recente werk verbreedt de horizon echter aanzienlijk. In 2015 bracht Sef bijvoorbeeld In Kleur uit, een levenslustige plaat met invloeden van funk, electro, Arabische en Afrikaanse muziek. De insteek was om zichzelf te verrassen door zowel de hiphop-trends als de tradities te mijden.

Op zijn komende album Excusez Moi keert Sef min of meer terug naar de basis: gewoon tien zo goed mogelijke tracks opnemen. Een verontschuldiging kun je het niet noemen, eerder een bevestiging van Sefs pure essentie als rapper en artiest. Het album telt bijdragen van Bokoesam, Faberyayo, Glen Faria, Dio en Yung Nnel.

Excusez Moi is misschien wel de meest natuurgetrouwe pijler voor Sef, maar als live-act gaat hij dit jaar flink uitpakken. Falco Benz gaat mee op pad om een funky sausje toe te voegen aan het oeuvre van de rapper. Zowel een live band als DJs worden ingezet, oude tracks krijgen een frisse update en het podium wordt voorzien van een spectaculaire lichtinstallatie. Verwacht een dikke show die je nog lang zult bijblijven. Er is geen excuus om hier niet bij te zijn!

Yousef Gnaoui, better known as Sef, took Dutch hip-hop by storm in 2004 as a core member of Flinke Namen. The Amsterdam-based rapper collaborated with The Partysquad, Gers Pardoel, Dio and The Opposites on hit songs like Broodje Bakpao, Bagagedrager and Me Nikes, which have become mainstays in Dutch pop culture.

Sef always has a killer hook in his vocabulary; his recent work, however, broadens his horizons considerably. For example, 2015’s In Kleur is saturated with influences of funk, electro, Arab and African music. The idea was to surprise himself by actively avoiding both hip-hop’s trends and traditions.

On his upcoming album Excusez Moi, Sef will more or less go back to basics: he recorded the ten best possible tracks he could create. Don’t consider Excusez Moi an apology for sticking to his guns. The album is a testimony to Sef’s pure essence as one of the finest and most visionary rappers and artists in The Netherlands. The album features contributions from Bokoesam, Faberyayo, Glen Faria, Dio and Yung Nnel.

Excusez Moi is perhaps the most faithful depiction of Sef, but as a live act, he will up the ante considerably this year. This extravaganza will feature both band and beatmakers, older tracks get a fresh overhaul and the stage is equipped with spectacular lighting. Expect a huge show you won’t soon forget. Be there or be square, no excuses!
