De in Londen gevestigde Franse componist-pianist RIOPY maakt muziek doordrenkt met virtuositeit, unieke ritmes en totale vrijheid. Met drie albums op zak – RIOPY (2018), Tree of Light (2019) en Bliss (2021) – heeft hij inmiddels een grote en immens loyale aanhang. Tree of Light behaalde medio januari 2022 de eerste plaats in de ‘Classical & New Age charts,’ 71 weken nadat het de lijst was binnengekomen!

RIOPY kan niet alleen prachtig pianospelen maar haalt ook veel inspiratie uit meditatie. De pianist wordt geroemd om zijn innemende uitstraling, zijn caleidoscopische muziek en unieke stijl. Jean-Philippe Riopy, geboren en getogen op het Franse platteland, leerde zichzelf op jonge leeftijd piano spelen toen hij in zijn dorp een verlaten instrument ontdekte. Zonder toegang tot gedrukte partituren componeerde hij muziek in zijn hoofd. Zijn internationale carrière begon toen hij op 21-jarige leeftijd naar Londen verhuisde.

Dat verliep aanvankelijk stormachtig: al snel stond hij in het Royal Opera House en de Steinway Hall. Zijn unieke, ritmisch gedreven benadering bracht hem al snel onder de aandacht van Steinway & Sons, die hem tot Young Steinway Artist benoemden. Hij gaf recitals in Milaans Piano City en de Reeperbahn-festivals in Hamburg, in het Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Parijs en in de London St Pancras Clock Tower.

Tegelijkertijd bouwde hij aan een carrière in Los Angeles. Met zijn sfeervolle, cinematografische werken bereikt hij een breed internationaal publiek door film, televisie, reclames en documentaires. O.a. in filmtrailers voor The Danish Girl, Mr Turner, Jimmy’s Hall, A Royal Night Out, The Sense of an Ending en The Shape of Water. Ook is RIOPY’s muziek te horen in reclamecampagnes voor Armani, Bentley, Samsung, Mercedes en Ikea, maar ook in documentaires uitgezonden op de Britse netwerken BBC, ITV en Channel 4.

RIOPY can not only play the piano beautifully but also gets a lot of inspiration from meditation. The pianist is renowned for his charming appearance, kaleidoscopic music and unique style. Born and raised in the French countryside, Jean-Philippe Riopy taught himself to play the piano at an early age when he discovered an abandoned instrument in his village. Without access to printed scores, he composes music in his head. His international career started when he moved to London at the age of 21.

A career that was initially stormy: promptly he was in the Royal Opera House and the Steinway Hall. His unique, rhythmically driven approach soon brought him to the attention of Steinway & Sons, who named him Young Steinway Artist. He has given recitals at Milan’s Piano City and the Reeperbahn festivals in Hamburg, at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris and at London’s St Pancras Clock Tower.

At the same time, he built a career in Los Angeles. With his atmospheric, cinematographic works he reaches a wide international audience through film, television, commercials and documentaries. i.a. in movie trailers for The Danish Girl, Mr Turner, Jimmy’s Hall, A Royal Night Out, The Sense of an Ending and The Shape of Water. RIOPY’s music can also be heard in advertising campaigns for Armani, Bentley, Samsung, Mercedes and Ikea, as well as in documentaries broadcast on the British networks BBC, ITV and Channel 4.
