Vlaamse rockvedetten aangevoerd door Sarah en Gert Bettens

Goed nieuws voor iedereen die doorgaans sentimenteel mee neuriet met Not An Addict. Na vijf jaar komt K’s Choice terug met een nieuw album en tournee. De band uit Antwerpen grijpt op The Phantom Cowboy terug naar de energie en rauwheid van nineties-klassiekers The Great Unconscious Club, Paradise In Me en Cocoon Crash. K’s Choice viel destijds op met alternatieve rockanthems die stiekem toch klein, introvert en persoonlijk van aard zijn. De warme, innemende stem van Sarah Bettens wist zich altijd ergens in de ziel te nestelen en de zere plekken te helen. Favorieten als Everything For Free, Almost Happy en Dad, zullen vanavond waarschijnlijk de revue passeren en voor veel beroering zorgen. Aangezien december nog best ver weg is, des te meer tijd om het nieuwe album, dat op 24 april verschijnt, in het hart te sluiten.

Helsinki werd opgericht door Thomas Vanelslander. Hij was jaren sidekick in talloze bands als K’s Choice, Raymond van het Groenewoud, Arno en Gorki en besliste dat het tijd werd om zijn plaatsje in het midden op te eisen. Al sinds zijn tienerjaren schreef hij zelf songs, die meestal vertrokken vanuit een stuwende gitaar en melodische zanglijnen. Omdat Helsinki een groep is, haalde hij er Pim De Wolf (Thou, Tommigun) bij als bassist, Ace Zec (Customs, Nailpin) op drums en Joos Houwen (DVKES, Statue, The Tellers) als gitarist. Ieder lid moest ook extra zang voor zijn rekening kunnen en willen nemen. Een verzoek dat iedereen graag inwilligde. Sommigen horen fitsen Queens Of The Stone Age, anderen The Black Keys of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. In september 2015 brengen ze hun eerste EP uit.

Dit concert wordt georganiseerd in samenwerking met Motel Mozaique en de Rotterdamse Schouwburg.

All those who’ve been humming sentimentally to Not An Addict‘s iconic first tones can rejoice : K’s Choice are back to hit the road with a grand new LP The Phantom Cowboy. This album finds the Antwerp rock stalwarts rekindle with the arresting fervency that defined nineties milestones The Great Unconscious Club, Paradise In Me and Cocoon Crash. K’s Choice became a novelty with anthemic rock hits that still instilled a sense of bare-faced intimacy.

Sarah Bettens’s balmy, comforting voice has a way of creeping into your soul. No doubt, Bettens will exert that power again singing fan favorites like Everything For Free, Almost Happy and Dad. But since we’ll have to wait two more months for K’s Choice’s performance, now is the perfect time for the songs on The Phantom Cowboy to take their stride.

Helsinki was founded by Thomas Vanelslander, who performed by commission with a plethora of artists, which includes K’ Choice, Raymond van het Groenewound, Arno and Gorki. Now he finally made the call to take the limelight for himself. Since his teens, Vanelslander whas written his own songs, personified by a thrusting guitar cadence and melodic vocals.

To expand Helsinki into a full-fledged band, he recruited Pim De Wolf (Thou, Tommigun) on bass guitar, Ace Zec (Customs, Nailpin) on drums and Joost Houwen (DVKES, Statue, The Tellers) on guitar. An understated quality of Helsinki is their inclination to have every band member taking up vocal duties. In a way, you could think of Helsinki as a more harmonious equivalent to Queens Of The Stone Age, The Black Keys and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
