New Yorker Chris Baio is generally known as the man who drops those bouncy basslines for indie paragons Vampire Weekend. Naturally, his compelling solo project Baio has plenty of those as well, but that’s where the comparisons come to a halt. Baio’s debut LP The Names is a highly addictive amalgamation of synth pop, techno, glam rock and folk, to the point where it becomes something completely original. His single Sister of Pearl spins those persisting Bowie and Roxy Music influences into a vibrant and frolicsome backbeat.

In his salad days, 18-year-old songwriter Jasper Boogaard already dabbles between two bands and runs a record label, Coaster Records, to boot. An inspirited fellow indeed, who’s currently burgeoning with indie pop outfit Goodnight Moonlight. Debut LP Mountain Boy gives us seven well-drawn, quirky tunes saturated with lush reverb-effects akin to Mac DeMarco and Yuko Yuko. Belying the music’s bright aesthetic, Boogaard contemplates about insomnia, mortality and feeling sexy in tight jeans. After performing as a duo for extended period of time, Goodnight Moonlight now sports a full-fledged band line-up that will explore their jangly sonics to new terra firma.
